“Every humanitarian crisis is also an education crisis.
Beyond learning, education offers a protective environment that is even more relevant to crisis-affected populations, particularly children.” - UNESCO
Dear Friends,
As we watch events in Ukraine unfold, we’d like to keep you as updated as possible about provisions being put in place for the education of the millions of displaced or suddenly relocated children who have been affected by the war. The below UNESCO article provides a quick overview of the measures being adopted by different countries to integrate children into their education systems and to provide language support: Mapping Host Countries’ Education Responses to the Influx of Ukrainian Students.
As you will see, the listed countries are engaging in a range of efforts including providing tutoring in the host country's language, hiring Ukrainian teachers, and commissioning private companies to translate lessons into Ukrainian.
Please note, some of the following resources are in Ukranian. To translate them, we recommend Lexicool, a free and legitimate online website translation service.
Additionally, education resumed in Ukraine on March 14th, via its National Online School, and additional resources include*:
· NUMO online kindergarten with video classes for children aged 3 to 6 – a collaboration between UNICEF and the Ministry of Education and Science
· Digital versions of textbooks on the IMZO electronic library
· List of schools and organizations that can help children and families, composed by the Ministry of Education and Science.
More suggestions can be found in Resources Supporting Ukrainian Children’s Right to Education prepared by the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights (available in Ukrainian and English).
